Qualcomm-Tata Partnership Launches India’s First Automotive Chip Plant
Qualcomm Technologies and Tata Electronics have forged a strategic partnership to establish India's first indigenous OSAT facility in Jagiroad, Assam. The $3 billion plant will specialize in semiconductor assembly and testing for automotive applications, marking a significant leap in localizing high-tech manufacturing.
The collaboration leverages India's engineering talent to accelerate development of software-defined vehicles. Qualcomm's automotive modules—powering digital cockpits, connectivity solutions, and infotainment systems—will now have localized production capacity through Tata's advanced wire bonding and flip chip technologies.
This venture strengthens global supply chains while positioning India as a hub for automotive electronics. The facility's output will serve both domestic automakers and international markets, reducing reliance on imported semiconductor components.
